Hardly anyone's using the trial carparks introduced near Christchurch Hospital, after years of pleas for them

Hardly anyone's using the trial carparks introduced near Christchurch Hospital, after years of pleas for them

A lane of traffic on Hagley Avenue, alongside the hospital, was swapped out for 18-free on-street carparks between 7.30pm and 7.30am last month.

It'll be trialled for six months.

Christchurch City Council transport operations manager Stephen Wright says traffic camera data reveals the highest number of vehicles observed parked at one time is two, and the maximum total usage over a single night was three vehicles.

While, on several occasions, no vehicles parked in the area overnight at all.
