The man accused of approaching Christchurch school girls offering cash for inappropriate favours, is one of the country's worst sex offenders

Police sent letters to 11 local schools in Merivale and St Albans area last week, warning of the man's behaviour.

The 53-year-old who's been arrested has been named as Leo Darin Goodwin - who has multiple convictions for violence and rape in New Zealand and Australia, dating back to the 1990s.

Goodwin appeared in court yesterday, charged with breaching his preventive detention and parole conditions.

He was remanded in custody to re-appear next month.
