One man has died and a Police officer is in a serious condition after an incident in Western Waikato

One man has died and a Police officer is in a serious condition after an incident in Western Waikato

Police say the man and the officer were shot, while Police were responding to reports of a burglarly at a commercial property near Waitomo about 2.30am.

They haven't confirmed if the incident is related to the search for Tom Phillips and his three children, who have been missing in the area for almost four years.

The Herald's Mike Scott is at the Police cordon on Te Anga Road, between Waitomo and Marokopa, and says there's a heavy Police presence.

Chris Luxon says he's being briefed and Police will have more to say later today.
