The Local Government Minister says he is seeking advice on changes to the 30-year-old Dog Control Act

The Local Government Minister says he is seeking advice on changes to the 30-year-old Dog Control Act

62-year-old, Mihiata Te Rore, was killed by three dogs on Tuesday, as she visited a home in Kaihu, north of Dargaville.

Local MP Shane Jones says jail terms should be considered for owners of what he labels 'homicidal dogs'.

Minister Simon Watts says , while law changes are considered, obligations must still be met.

He says it means dog-owners must be responsible and councils must enforce the Act currently in place.
