Police are warning the public of an email scam impersonating police and justice officials

Police are warning the public of an email scam impersonating police and justice officials

It claims authorities have searched the email recipient's computer and located illegal material.

The person is directed to reply within 48-hours -- or risk a warrant being issued for their arrest.

Police say similar scams involve the recipient being issued a 'fine" when they respond - and warn not to reply under any circumstances.

They're reminding New Zealanders government agencies will never contact a person out of the blue to ask for password, credit card or bank details.
