Revelations a man with historical indecency convictions who later became a teacher and abused young girls, also was able to work as a Santa at three Auckland Westfield malls

Revelations a man with historical indecency convictions who later became a teacher and abused young girls, also was able to work as a Santa at three Auckland Westfield malls

Timothy Fisher was sentenced to more than four years in prison last week, for abusing nine girls in 2024 at a private after-school tutoring company.

It's now been revealed the 57-year-old wasn't vetted by police before being hired to pose for photos with children in 2022 and 2023.

He has three convictions for doing indecent acts from 2002, but the Clean Slate Act enabled Fisher to conceal previous convictions.

Mall operators Scentre Group has launched a review after learning of the vetting failure.

It says to date, it isn't aware of any direct customer feedback or complaints.
