They were officially introduced on April 1, but the Government announced a two-month grace period before fines kick in.
NZTA's Regulatory Strategic Programmes head Tara Macmillan says they've seen a surge of purchases in the last few days.
She says if you don't display or haven't purchased a RUC licence the roadside infringement is around 200-dollars for an individual or 800 for a business.
