Alicia Silverstone is reprising her role in 'Clueless' for a new TV series after 30 years

The 48-year-old actress shot to fame playing pampered teenager Cher Horowitz in the 1995 movie alongside Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy and Paul Rudd, and now it's been revealed the film is being revived as a new TV show which is being described as a sequel to the movie

The news was first reported by Variety and Alicia shared the news on Instagram, writing: "Totally buggin' ... in the best way."

Variety reports Alicia is returning to play Cher in the series, which will be written by 'Gossip Girl' creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss.

The film's original writer/director Amy Heckerling is listed as an ex ecutive producer, alongside Silverstone.

There was a previous attempt to bring 'Clueless' back as a TV show for Peacock back in 2020, but that project never went forward.

A previous TV show version of the story launched back in the 1990s with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher for three seasons which ran between 1996 and 1999.

Alicia previously revived her 'Clueless' character Cher in an advert for Rakuten which aired during the 2023 Super Bowl and the actress went on to admit the commercial - which showed her back in Cher's iconic yellow checked skirt and blazer costume - stepped up demand from fans for a 'Clueless' sequel.

She told Variety: "I think people are talking about a (sequel) all the time at all times since the movie happened.

"Has it been 30 years yet? That always is a fun conversation. It's so lovely to see how people still love that movie. It's very nice."

Alicia previously revived Cher back in 2021 when she recreated a scene from the film with her son Bear for a video posted on TikTok.

She later enlisted her former co-star Stacey Dash - who played Cher's best friend Dionne - to film another recreated scene for the social media site before sharing a Cher montage last year to mark 27 years since 'Clueless' hit cinemas.

Alicia captioned the clip: "27 years ago, a bad b**** was born ... Happy anniversary, Cher! #Clueless #AsIf #90s."
