Police are encouraging parents and drivers to use extra caution as kids head back to school

Police are encouraging parents and drivers to use extra caution as kids head back to school

Today is the first day back from the summer holidays for many students, with even more expected tomorrow after Auckland Anniversary Day.

Inspector Peter McKennie says drivers should remain attentive on the road because children can be unpredictable and appear out of nowhere.

He's urging parents to teach their children how to safely go to-and-from school, while using the safest road crossings.

McKennie says road safety around schools is especially important at the beginning of the year.
