State Highway One through the Mangamuka Gorge has reopened, after it was closed due to a slip overnight

State Highway One through the Mangamuka Gorge has reopened, after it was closed due to a slip overnight

It only reopened late last year after a two-year reconstruction project, and was closed again in April due to two slips.

Far North District Councillor Ann Court says it's just the reality of living in a sub-tropical region.

She says it's very challenging for anyone to design a network that's 100-percent resilient to signifcant weather bombs.

Wild weather across the country's caused flooding and fallen trees elsewhere overnight, with the South Island's Nelson Tasman region hit the worst.

It remains in a state of emergency.
