The Sydney Morning Herald reports the former Rooster - poised to leave Japanese rugby club Toyota for France in the coming months - now wants out of that Racing 92 contract on compassionate grounds.
The report suggests Manu's considering a return to either Sydney or New Zealand.
If released - he could be available for NRL clubs before the June 30 signing cut-off, with the Warriors indicating their desire to have a discussion.
Manu's been openly about his ambition to play for the All Blacks and would also attract the interest of Super Rugby clubs - a potential deal with NZR could see him playing NPC this year.
