Wellington retailers may be feeling the pinch following a drop in Boxing Day sales

Worldline NZ data shows core retail spending in the capital dropped almost 11-percent compared to last year, while nationwide spend was down 0.6-percent.

Retail NZ Chief Executive Carolyn Young says Wellingtonians are likely being careful with their spending, given the potential for cuts to the public sector.


Young says she's disappointed to see the overall figures, but the result is about as good as expected.
