The Rebels will exit Super Rugby after 14 seasons - with Rugby Australia rejecting the rescue bid because it didn't see it as being financially viable.
Consortium leader Leigh Clifford says the decision by RA to turn their back on a 18 million dollar rescue plan has left them with no choice.
Meanwhile, Rugby Australia is investigating how to replace the Melbourne Rebels fixture against the British and Irish Lions next year.
