The Crusaders and Wellington halfback is considered a chance to bolt in to Scott Robertson's Rugby Championship squad - after injuries to Noah Hotham and Cam Roigard.

Finlay Christie was a late scratching from Tasman's side in NPC yesterday - fuelling speculation he'll get one of the vacant spots.

Former All Black Jeff Wilson has mounted a case for Preston's inclusion - on Sky Sport's Breakdown show.

The All Blacks squad is named at midday.
