Part of a major South Island highway is closed due to a large slip

NZTA says the slip on State Highway 7, south of the Riordan Creek Bridge, was discovered early this morning.

It's forced the closure of the road in both directions - between Springs Junction and Island Hills.

No detour is available - crews are working on options to provide access, but an overnight closure may be required.
