South Africa have beaten India by 408 runs in the second cricket test at Guwahati to complete a 2-nil series sweep

South Africa have beaten India by 408 runs in the second cricket test at Guwahati to complete a 2-nil series sweep

However, controversy ensued in the aftermath when the visitors' non-white coach Shukri Conrad said he wanted to make the hosts "grovel" in the field before sending them back to bat in the fourth innings.

The word triggered outrage because of its use, interpreted as a racial slight, by England captain Tony Greig before the West Indies' arrival in 1976.

The late Greig was born in apartheid South Africa - the irony of Conrad's remark is that India was among the countries to stand against the regime.

Sir Viv Richards later noted Greig had gifted them the greatest possible motivation speech - the visitors won the five-match series 3-nil and launched a dominant era.
