Authorities are preparing for record numbers of people travelling into Northland, for Waitangi Day

Authorities are preparing for record numbers of people travelling into Northland, for Waitangi Day

Northland Police District Commander, Superintendent Matt Srhoj , says event planning takes months.

He says contingencies are in place for huge numbers on Thursday.

NZTA's urging motorists to plan ahead, especially for travelling through Paihia and Waitangi.

It warns the State Highway 11 roundabout exit to Paihia's Te Karuwha Parade, will remain closed this week to restrict traffic through to Waitangi.
