Thousands of New Zealanders could potentially have easier access to contraceptives

Thousands of New Zealanders could potentially have easier access to contraceptives

Pharmac is consulting on a proposal allow women to get a Mirena and Jaydess IUD directly from their doctor or nurse, during their appointment.

Under the current system, people need to get a prescription, pick their IUD up from a pharmacy, and then go back to the clinic.

Medicines Management Clinical Lead Melissa Copland says this extra step can lead to delays and be a barrier for some people.

    Consultation closes later this month.
