Pushback against proposed Government changes to marine and coastal area law
16 October 2025
An amendment Bill to the Marine and Coastal Act is traversing the Parliamentary process - faced by significant Opposition backlash.
The Government says it wants to restore the legislation's original intent.
Labour MP Willie Jackson joined a demonstration outside Parliament today - as a petition against the Bill was delivered.
He says Governments shouldn't interfere in tikanga, and accused the current one of attacking Maori rights.
