One of our largest electricity companies says lines charges are the biggest factor driving up power bills

One of our largest electricity companies says lines charges are the biggest factor driving up power bills

Rising electricity prices are now the single biggest driver of inflation.

Power prices have risen by 11.3 percent in the past year.

Contact Energy Chief Executive Mike Fuge says that's largely the result of much higher rises in regulated lines charges.

He says those lines charges were set by the Commerce Commission when interest rates were much higher.
