Winds could once again prove problematic for Canterbury fire crews, as they prepare to step away from the now-contained Waipara forest fire

Winds could once again prove problematic for Canterbury fire crews, as they prepare to step away from the now-contained Waipara forest fire

Crews spent more than a week at the over-100 hectare blaze, after several flare ups due to wind.

The conditions forced fire crews to enforce a temporary total fire ban across Canterbury until Monday, due to wind.

Metservice has just issued an Orange Strong Wind Warning for the Canterbury High Country for tomorrow.

Severe gale northwesterlies could bring damaging gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour in exposed places.

It says there is a low chance the warning could be upgraded to red.
