Olivia Munn's son Malcolm made her "stronger" and "softer" as she fought breast cancer

The actress welcomed her first child with husband John Mulaney in 2021 and their daughter Mei arrived in September, and she has now marked Malcolm's third birthday with a moving message in which she credited him with helping her through her health crisis following her life-changing diagnosis last year

In a post on Instagram, she shared a picture which showed her cuddling her little boy and wrote: "Magic Malc turns 3 today ...

"This photo was taken last year just around the time I found out I had breast cancer. I remember this time fondly all because of this little boy.

"He's made me stronger and softer in ways I never knew I could be. Happiest Birthday my sweet boy. You cracked my heart wide open."

Olivia underwent a number of surgeries after her cancer diagnosis including a full hysterectomy and double mastectomy, and she recently admitted she felt "a lot of guilt" as she struggled to care for her son when she was recovering.

During an appearance on 'TODAY', she explained: "There is a lot of guilt that I had and still have from being sick for so long and being bedridden with so many surgeries.

"I mean, I thought that when I got through the big chunk of surgeries, like the four surgeries in the beginning, that I would be able to get back on my feet.

"But then, there came the first wave of medication, and that just knocked me down and was debilitating."

Olivia recalled feeling "tired" and admitted that she "couldn't hold" her baby boy at one point in time.

She said: "It was really exhausting and there's just a lot of guilt."

Despite this, Olivia appreciated having the support of her husband through her health battles: "We're really tight and we have a lot of fun and we laugh all the time, and John is just the most amazing husband and father.

"And so, we figure out a way to make it all work despite how tired I can be at times."
