Retail spending appears to be picking up, gradually

Retail spending appears to be picking up, gradually

Stats NZ figures show card spending's increased for two consecutive months.

Overall spending last month was up 0.2 percent on the month before.

Higher spending on vehicles, groceries and hospitality, is offsetting a steady decline in spending on clothes.

But Retail NZ says people aren't buying more -- they're paying more for what they buy.
