It's been revealed 50 police employees snooped into files relating to the death of Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming, without good reason

Fleming died after she and Officer Adam Ramsay were hit by a vehicle, while on foot patrol early New Years morning in Nelson.

A 32-year-old man's pleaded not guilty to murder, and attempted murder.

Open Justice reports 116 employees were investigated - finding only 76 had legitimate reason.

Police say the 50 who misused the system have been issued warnings, for accessing both Fleming's, and the alleged offenders file.
