Cardi B felt "so sleepy" during her recent assault trial

The 32-year-old rap star has confessed to briefly falling asleep during the civil assault trial, when Cardi was cleared by a Los Angeles jury

Asked if she was falling asleep in court, Cardi - who was accused of assaulting a security guard - said on The Jennifer Hudson Show: "I'm not even going to lie, I was. I had a long night!

"I'm in the middle of an album rollout. I was so sleepy ... I was trying to fight it but I just couldn't."

Cardi is currently promoting her latest, Am I the Drama?, and she's admitted to feeling "overwhelmed" amid the trial.

The chart-topping star - who has three kids with her estranged husband Offset - said: "I'm in the middle of an album rollout, and I have to go to court.

"And then, when I get to court, I realise that it's going to be on national TV, being televised. It's like, 'You've got to be kidding me.' I missed my kids' first day of school. But at least it's positive press."

Cardi has enjoyed a meteoric rise over recent years.

However, the rap star has repeatedly suggested that she was actually happier before she found fame and success.

She previously told CR Fashion Book magazine: "One positive thing is that, my family, whatever they want, they get. Everything that I want to buy, I can get. I don't have to worry so much about my future.

"One negative thing is that, even though I'm happy, I feel like I was a little bit happier two or three years ago when I had less money."

Cardi feels as though she's lost some control over her own life.

The rapper - who worked as a stripper before finding success in the music business - feels like the world now "owns" her.

She said: "I had less people who had opinions about my life. I felt like my life was mine.

"Now I feel like I don't even own my life. I feel like the world owns me."
