Coastguard is reflecting on a busy summer season for its volunteers

Coastguard is reflecting on a busy summer season for its volunteers

They responded to more than 12-hundred incidents -- bringing three-thousand plus people to safety between December and February's end.

The most common callouts were due to equipment failures, overdue boaties, swimmers in difficulty -- and boats capsizing or running aground.

Spokesperson, Lesley Slieker says there's indications boaties are taking more safety measures than summers past.

She says there were more bar crossings and trip reports logged than ever before.
