Many questions remain unanswered as police reveal more details about the fatal assault of a man at an Auckland bus stop

A 33 year-old man died in hospital after being assaulted on St Johns Road in Meadowbank around 10 on Saturday night.

Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin says they know who the victim is, and believe two assailants were involved, but haven't been able to identify them.

He says Police are urgently seeking help from anyone who say suspicious activity in the area - especially motorists with dashcam footage.

Baldwin says the motive for the attack is not clear and they are unsure if the victim was waiting for a bus or taking shelter from the storm.
