More wet and windy weather is on its way for the South Island

More wet and windy weather is on its way for the South Island

MetService has issued heavy rain warnings from Doubtful Sound to the ranges of Westland - up to 250 millimetres of rain is expected in some areas.

Strong wind watches also cover Stewart Island all the way up to the Canterbury High Country from Thursday.

Meteorologist John Law says the rain will be the heaviest in the west, tomorrow.

He says it will then travel up the North Island by Friday.
