A scatter of new road snowfall warnings - as a winter chill continues across the country

One's been issued in the North Island - for State Highway One's Desert Road, from Rangipo to Waiouru - which reopened earlier after a heavy dumping of snow.

A serious crash has closed State Highway 23, near Waikato's Whatawhata, from Ferguson Road to Te Pahu Road.

Down South - Canterbury's Porter's Pass and Arthurs Pass, both on State Highway 73, are also under road snowfall warnings, until later tonight.

State Highway Seven's Lewis Pass is also under warning, through the Southern Alps.
