Severe winds are continuing to batter the West Coast, upper South Island, and lower North Island, leaving thousands without power.
Several flights in and out of Nelson are cancelled, and State Highway 6 east of Nelson is closed due to fallen trees and rockfalls.
Foxton residents are being asked to urgently conserve water, and State Highway 57 north of Shannon is closed due to a rolled truck, fallen trees and debris
On the Kapiti Coast, Paekakariki Holiday Park Manager Marilyn Heazlewood says she had to move tent campers into a lodge overnight.
She says the winds are still strong but have eased off a bit since last night, and there's a hanging branch in one of the trees above a tent that will need to be addressed urgently.
