Easter trading rules could be in for a change
Easter trading rules could be in for a change
19 April 2025
Bill to make the sale and supply of alcohol simpler for businesses operating on Easter, Anzac Day, and Christmas, passed its first reading in Parliament last week.
Currently people must order a meal before having an alcoholic beverage - there's a total ban for off-licence alcohol sales.
ACT MP Cameron Luxton says he's been campaigning for Easter freedom for a while.
He says there's an appetite to change the rules but it doesn't get much recognition during the rest of the year.
