Remediation works continue in Wellington's Moa Point treatment plant, with discharge now flowing through the facility's long outfall pipe.

Wellingtonians are being asked to avoid the city's southern beaches, due to unsafe water quality.

Wellington Water Chair Nick Leggett says restrictions will lift when enough samples look positive.

He says today's results look promising, but they need to assess it for longer, to be confident.
