Jessie J decided having a nanny wasn't for her

The singer, 37, born Jessica Cornish, made the declaration she rejected help around the house as she opened up about parenting alongside her retired basketball player partner Chanan Safir Colman, 41, with whom she had son Sky in Mat 2023 following two years of the couple dating

She told People about their decision to bring up their boy themselves: "We tried to have a nanny for six weeks, and it just wasn't for us."

But Jessie added about getting help around the house: "We probably will at some point because we can't physically do it on our own. But my mum (Rose Cornish) is really heavily involved as well."

Jessie, whose last album 'R.O.S.E.' was released in 2017, is currently preparing a musical comeback with two new singles - 'No Secrets' and 'Living My Best Life'.

Her mum Rose has been helping care for Sky while Jessie juggles motherhood and music.

The performer said: "She's here now because I'm so busy, but it's just been me and (Chanan) from day one. And we're figuring it out."

Jessie also described the routines they have built as parents.

She said: "One of us gets up in the morning. Sometimes I get up at 5:00, and I'll batch-cook food for the next few days and put it in the freezer so that he's got fresh food.

    "We're a really good team."

Despite returning to work to make music, Jessie said her son Sky often joins her in the studio.

She added: "I'm holding him while I'm recording it, and he's not a light boy, so I'm just trying to hold him, singing this really big song.

"He's the best, man. He's so smart. I love him so much."

Jessie also said she and Chanan often reflect together on their new life as parents, adding: "We're just holding each other's hands and figuring it out as we go.

"Me and Chanan have a good laugh every night about all the things that we're doing."

Jessie added Sky, now a one-year-old, is already hitting big milestones.

She said: "He started to talk in sentences, which is wild for his age, but he's very advanced in his speech. "He knows all of our names. So he goes, 'Mummy's Jess,' and like, 'Daddy Chanan'."
