Pamela Anderson says her decision to take on the lead role in 'The Last Showgirl' was instinctive

The 57-year-old actress was tipped for Oscars glory for the part, but ended up not being nominated for an Academy Award this year - but she has now opened up about how accepting the role was one of the highlights of her life

She told Elle digital's January issue about being handed the script for the film by her son, producer and actor Brandon Lee: "This might be my only chance to do a film, so I'm going to give it all I've got."

The film, directed by Gia Coppola, 36, has brought Pamela back into the spotlight with award nominations from the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and Gotham Awards.

Despite being snubbed by the Oscars, Pamela said she is taking it all in her stride.

She added: "I always say the win is in the work.

"I got to do something I really love, and I needed to do that for my soul."

The project was a deeply collaborative effort, with Sofia leading a predominantly female crew.

Pamela said: "This really was a film about women created by women.

"There were so many women on this set, from our DP to the girl carrying the boom."

Pamela also opened up about wearing costumes designed by Bob Mackie for the movie, adding: "Those costumes were museum pieces."

She also credited her preparation for the role to her active lifestyle, saying: "I've always been active, so that's what keeps me in shape. I don't go to the gym."

And Pamela worked closely with choreographer Greg Butler, who helped her perfect the film's audition dance sequence.

She also reflected on the challenges of showbiz, particularly for women, saying: "It's hard to navigate a business that is based on physical beauty and also naïveté."
