    Confirmation bird flu's been successfully eradicated from an Otago egg farm


    A strain was first detected at Mainland Poultry's Hillgrove property early last December.

    The Ministry for Primary Industries set up strict movement controls to prevent the virus leaving the farm.

    200-thousand chickens were culled.

    Chief Veterinary Officer, Doctor Mary Van Andel, says Mainland Poultry can now start the process of returning to business.

    She says they're confident the disease has been stamped out, with more than 5000 tests carried out.
