Michael J. Fox is a "big fan" of Eric Stoltz

The 64-year-old actor replaced Eric as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future franchise, after the filmmakers realised that Eric wasn't the right fit for the role, and the duo recently had their first-ever conversation

Michael told People: "I'm a big fan of his. He's really great. And particularly I'm a big Tarantino fan - Pulp Fiction was amazing."

Asked about their first-ever meeting, Michael explained: "It was great. It was a great conversation. It was just two guys talking, which is what I thought it would be."

The Hollywood star also rubbished speculation of there being any lingering tension between himself and Eric, 64.

Michael said: "There's all this mythology built up about this thing that happened. Was it backstabbing? Was there people conniving and being evil? No, it just was the thing that happened.

"We had different experiences with the same situation and you absorb it and you move on."

Meanwhile, Michael previously admitted that his meteoric rise "made no sense" to him.

The actor - who moved from Canada to the US at the age of 18 - initially struggled to find work in Hollywood, but he shot to international stardom as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future film franchise.

Michael - who also starred alongside his now-wife Tracy Pollan on the NBC sitcom Family Ties - told Entertainment Tonight: "I was dumpster diving because I knew the grocery store would throw baked goods out. We'd steal jam and peanut butter from the IHOP or Denny's. It was a tough existence.

"But in a relatively short period of time I was famous and I was the biggest movie star in the world ... It was crazy. It made no sense."

Michael regards his marriage as the "best" years of his life.

Discussing the keys to his happy marriage, Michael explained: "We give each other space to make mistakes. Always remember that. Don't perceive slights ... That's what's beautiful about marriage, it's us two."
