The value from the upcoming public transport ticketing system is falling

The 1.4 billion dollar project would introduce a contactless payment system for public transport.

It was originally estimated to have a Benefit Cost Ratio of 1.7 meaning that it would produce 1 dollar and 70 cents worth of benefit, for every 1 dollar of cost.

However a recent recalculation's found that's fallen to 1 point four.

It's because of rolling delays for technology which has pushed the project out by at least a year to 2027.
