To a death in the cricket world..

To a death in the cricket world..

Frank Duckworth, who alongside Tony Lewis was one of the inventors of the method to determine results in rain-affected cricket matches, has died aged 84.

The origins came, as you heard, after that 1992 World Cup semi-final between England and South Africa in Sydney, when a weather delay meant Protea Brian McMillan needed 22 off one ball rather than the original seven.

The equation was first used in 1997 and formally adopted by the ICC governing body in 2001.
