    A big New Year's Eve night is ahead across the country


    Public fireworks are planned for Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Tauranga, along with the Bay of Islands, Taupo, Napier, Picton, Nelson, Timaru and Queenstown.

    100-thousand people are expected to watch Auckland's events - including a 9am laser light show and midnight fireworks display

    Tataki Auckland Unlimited Destination Director Annie Dundas says it's always a special night for our largest city.

    She says Auckland is the first major city in the world to ring in the New Year.
