Alison Moyet was "traumatised by fame"

The 'All Cried Out' hitmaker was just 20 years old when she was propelled into the spotlight as a member of Yazoo alongside former Depeche Mode musician Vince Clarke, and she has shared how she became "agoraphobic" and felt so alone as a session musician as she didn't connect with other artists

She told Classic Pop magazine: "I was traumatised by fame.

    "I became agoraphobic and I was self-conscious."

    "My first tours were terrifying.

"I had gone straight into doing those shows with no concert vocabulary. When I struggled onstage, I had no idea how to tell anyone to fix it. There was no connection with the other musicians, so I felt on my own."

The 63-year-old songwriter - who has a new solo album, 'Key', on the way in October - is thankful she now has bandmate and producer Sean McGhee there to experience the highs and the lows of the job with her.

She said: "With session musicians, if you lose, you lose alone. When it goes tits up, everyone else can go on to the next job. That's understandable, because when the big benefits happen, I get them. But if you face a hostile crowd, there's no one to have a sly look with, whereas if it's brilliant, there's no one to share that joy with. Having Sean there, there's trust that someone knows your language."
