Hopes Fonterra will employ 120 workers, with the closure of a Hamilton milk-powder packaging facility

Hopes Fonterra will employ 120 workers, with the closure of a Hamilton milk-powder packaging facility

    Fonterra

The company revealed yesterday it's planning to shut the Canpac site near Te Rapa Racecourse, at the end of July.

It says it's part of its refocus on higher-value proteins and medical nutrition.

Dairy Workers Union National Secretary Chris Flatt says there are nearby Fonterra sites, workers could go to.

He says they've arranged a hiring freeze with the company, so workers have first choice of its sites.
