Tattoo-related injuries are costing the country hundreds of thousands of dollars a year

Tattoo-related injuries are costing the country hundreds of thousands of dollars a year

ACC received more than 540 claims for tattoo injuries last year, and has received more than 480 claims so far this year.

Botched home-jobs are leading to health risks, including scarring, sepsis and in extreme cases even amputation.

Bay of Islands Ink tattoo studio owner Kerryn Regling says the problem's out of control in Northland.

She says artists in her studio are specialising in covering up botched home tattoos.
