The Government hopes a raft of changes to public land acquisition will speed up the process to get infrastructure built

The Government hopes a raft of changes to public land acquisition will speed up the process to get infrastructure built

Parliament's voted in favour of amendments to the Public Works Act.

It will see incentive payments to landowners who agree to sell early, and a five percent recognition payment, to all whose land is acquired under the sped-up process.

Objections will no longer go through the Environment Court, and will instead be up to the relevant Government Minister.

Land Information Minister Chris Penk says objections are drawn-out.

He says the delays can extend construction timeframes and add costs.
