Recreational Marine: Hawke Bay Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1647hrs Monday 19-Jan-2026 by MetService Situation: A ridge continues to build over the South Island and lower North Island today, while a stationary front in the north brings a disturbed easterly flow to the upper North Island. The ridge of high pressure remains over the South Island on Tuesday. A low of tropical origin is moving southeast toward the North Island. The ridge is expected to move east of the South Island on Wednesday, while the low and the associated front move east across the country during Thursday. On Friday, the front is expected to move east across the Chatham Islands, while showers and cooler southerlies spreads across much of mainland New Zealand. Forecast for Inshore waters between Cape Kidnappers and Portland Island Nil warnings Monday: Southeast 20 knots gusting 30 knots. Sea moderate. Fair visibility in showers. Southerly swell 1 metre. Tuesday: Southeast 20 knots gusting 30 knots, becoming northeast 15 knots in the evening. Moderate sea easing in the evening. Poor visibility in periods of rain. Southeast swell 2 metres easing.
