![]() Recreational Marine: Hawke Bay Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 0715hrs Thursday 03-Apr-2025 by MetService Nil for PORTLAND Situation: A deep low is positioned just west of the South Island, moving southeastward and driving a strong northeasterly flow over New Zealand. Several fronts associated with the low will cross the country today. The large trough on Friday then shifts eastward, moving out of the region late in the day. A ridge of high pressure moves over New Zealand on Saturday. On Sunday, a low over the Tasman Sea approaches the centre of the country, followed by a strong southwesterly wind establishing itself by late Monday. Forecast issued at 0437hrs Thursday 03-Apr-2025 Valid to 7 am Thursday for Inshore waters between Cape Kidnappers and Portland Island. Strong wind advisory. Thursday: Northerly 20 knots, easing to 15 knots for a time this morning, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots this evening. Sea becoming rough this evening. Mainly fine, high clouds. Southerly swell 2 metres, easing to 1 metre. Easterly swell half a metre developing. Outlook until midnight Sunday: Friday: Northeast 25 knots, becoming northwest 10 knots in the evening. Showers, clearing. Easterly swell 1 metre dying out. Saturday: Northwest 10 knots, becoming southeast 10 knots later. A few showers developing.
