Northwesterlies strengthen over the South Island on Thursday, as a series of fronts approach and move north onto the country. A series of fronts affects New Zealand on Friday, with a cooler southwest change spreading onto southern New Zealand. On Saturday the frontal system clears central and northern New Zealand, followed by a ridge of high pressure spreading onto the country on Sunday. Forecast for Wellington Harbour and the south coast from Sinclair Head to Baring Head Nil warnings Wednesday: Southerly 15 knots, easing to variable 5 knots in the morning. Northwest 15 knots developing in the afternoon, then rising to 20 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate in the evening. Mainly fine. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay: Southerly swell 2 metres. For Castlepoint: Southerly swell 3 metres easing to 2 metres. Thursday: Northwest 25 knots. Partly cloudy.
